 | The skin as the largest organ of the body and one that has continuous contact with the environment, needs proper care and nourishment to remain healthy. Since the skin is a primary organ of detoxification, manifestations on the skin often reflect our general state of internal health. As with all our Ayurvedic formulas, Ayurvedic Skin Detox is designed to restore the body (especially the skin) to a balanced state of well-being. Neem (Azadirachta Indica) Neem is an extraordinary blood purifier, good for al skin diseases like acne, eczema, psoriasis and teeth and gums. Neem is included in most Ayurvedic Skin products because it is as effective on an external application as through internal indigestion. In Ayurveda it has been safely used for over five thousand years and are a good immunity booster to prevent colds, fevers, infections and various skin diseases. Neem for the Skin: Most effective in inflammatory skin conditions due to aggravated rakta and pitta with itching, oozing, burning and infection; eczema, psoriasis when active with auspitz sign and bleeding, acne, urticaria, ringworm, scabies, lice. Its intense bitterness found in azadirachtin has renowned anti-bacterial and fungicidal activity. This property, plus its chlorophyll content, adds to its potential as a deodorant for putrid smelling sweat and infected sores. Manjishta is a perennial climber and like a vine it "spreads" throughout the whole system, especially working on the arterial, circulatory system and skin. It literally means "bright red" attesting to its red roots which have anaffinity for the blood and the red pigment can be seen in the urine. Manjishta for the Skin: Its affinity for raktadhatu is specifically utilised to clean, cool and clear the blood of all excess pitta, heat, inflammation, visha (toxins) and ama. Used for itching in eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, vitiligo, acne, acne rosacea and herpes (kushta, visarpa). It normalises rakta dhatu agni. A favourite herb to help relieve pruritis when the liver and bhrajaka pitta are aggravated. Its circulatory invigorating properties make it a superb remedy for removing stubborn an chronic lesions. Also used in scabies and Tinea pedis. It also benefits these conditions when used as a wash or in a cream. It is a wonderful rejuvenative to the complexion. Gotu Kola: Latin Centella asiatica ? Folium (Apiaceae) Skin Gotu kola is a specific herb for inflammatory skin conditions: eczema, urticaria, acne, STDs. Gotu kola balances all 3 doshas and has wonderous effects on the skin and bhrajaka pitta. Very useful for hastening wound healing and redcing scars. The flavonoids act as circulatory stimulants that develop the blood vessels in the skin. It increases the rate of keratinisation of the skin, which helps to strengthen the outer protective layer of the body. This points to use in skin inflammation and cellulite. It is useful in external applications for hair loss via its pitta reducing effect SAFETY
Caution during pregnancy and as it inhibits liver enzymes responsible for barbituate metabolism it should not be used with benzodiazipines or barbiturates. Caution with hypoglycaemic and cholesterol lowering medication.
